Is there a way to select all of one color/hue in a picture, and delete it? (in PS CS4) I need to know D: Google's giving me nothing. Any suggestions? (homework is due tomorrow for Graphics XD)

I drew this project on a piece of graph paper, and my teacher was like HOMG why don't you color it with your Photoshop at home?! (because I still have a cold) ... she loves to abuse my PS resources. xD

I colored it, and I showed it to her.. she was like "oh you need to get rid of the grid lines!" x.x Nowyoutellme. I was thinking since the grid and black lines are on the same layer, and the grid is blue, I'd select all the blue and delete them? I'm probably screwed. The outlook isn't good. xD

Hmmm...let me do some experiments for a minute and get back to you within ten minutes? :)

There is a Color Selection tool in the GIMP, a free picture-editing program you can download here: [link] :)

Just pick the tool with a finger pointing to a red, green, and blue block; click on one of your blue gridlines; press Delete; and viola!

I don't know how you would go about that in Photoshop though :noes:

Well there are a couple of things you can do, all of which are relatively simple photoshop procedure...the downside is that they have varying success rates.

From what I've been able to gather, you drew a sketch on a piece of graph paper, inked it digitally on the same layer as the grid, and colored it?

To replicate your problem, I drew a quick horse head on lined paper and scanned it, in color mode, at 400 dpi. Now I'm using photoshop 7, so I don't think you'll run into any difficulty in that aspect...

Select>Color Range did not yield very pleasing results, which is what you were probably thinking of doing? Unless you have a lot of patience, I wouldn't recommend it.

If you colored it evenly enough, you'll probably be able to use the magnetic lasso tool to outline the edges of the subject matter, select inverse, and delete anything outside the subject matter...i.e. the gridlines.

If that doesn't work, you probably have to outline it manually with the old lasso tool. :/ But it will work, eventually. Unless...did you color the whole page and want to remove the gridlines from UNDER the actual color?

Hmm all of those crossed my mind and all of them will take forever :XD: There are several complicated things on the page that I don't want to have to outline with the prettyness of PS, nor do I feel like lasso-ing the gridlines around them.. o.o

I've been messing around with the Select>Color Range but it hasn't been going well xD

I could probably ask her how to do it tomorrow if I can't figure it out .. explain what I tried xD

Thanks for all your help! :D

I would go for that then. :3 The teacher is way more likely to let you off the hook if you go that route. Figured most of those would have crossed your mind...I honestly thought color range would work a little better when tinkered with, and theoretically there's a way to really fine tune it, but alas, paper...

Yeah I have GIMP downloaded already :D I thought about trying that... thanks :)

She might also have a few suggestions, too :XD:
